BIRDIE recognized by European Commission Innovation Radar

A key objective for the BIRDIE project has been to bring together expertise from different research areas to create innovative technologies that extend what is possible within kidney research and disease modeling.

Because of this, we are proud to announce that several of the techniques and platforms developed through the project have been recognized by the European Commission Innovation Radar as high potential innovation. This recognition stands as a strong testament to the level of inventiveness of the BIRDIE approach and all the contributing project partners.

The recognized innovations include novel microfluidic chip and 3D bioprinted renal model designs, integrated label free tissue imaging technology, dual toolheads for bioprinting and viral infection assays, and BK virus infection diagnostics platforms.

Together, we have developed new methods, platforms and technologies that pave the way for a better understanding of kidney disease and accelerate the development of new, more effective, drugs and treatments.

About Innovation Radar
The Innovation Radar is a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. The platform builds on information and data gathered by independent experts reviewing ongoing projects funded by the EU (under Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, LIFE Programme, Framework Programme 7 (FP7) or the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP)). The experts provide an independent evaluation of the examined project innovations and their market potential.
